鉴于疫情之下，很多同学面临停学、无法返校、语言考试中心关闭和语言考试取消等客观情况，威斯敏斯特大学近期对课程录取条件和语言要求作出了相应的调整。同学们可以在英文官网中查询各个专业2020/21学年的最新语言要求。其中针对 MATI 的语言申请要求调整为雅思总分不低于6.0分，单项不低于5.5分，具体可登陆大学英文官网查看。对于特殊情况下 MATI 专业语言的调整，威敏人文与科学学院副院长 Prof. Gerda Wielander 特别做出了如下解释：

The decision to exceptionally lower the IELTS requirements for the course to the minimum required by UKVI is entirely pragmatic and in response to the ongoing suspension of IELTS testing in China. It is designed so as not to unduly disadvantage applicants who, through no fault of their own, are simply unable to complete an IELTS test in time to meet the conditions and apply for a visa.

Please rest assured that this is not equivalent to "lowering standards" overall. In fact, the only reason we felt able to agree to this temporary measure until IELTS testing, and so much else in the world, returns to normal, is because MA Translation and Interpreting has very robust additional tests and entry requirements which remain in place. From many years of experience we know that ultimately it is the performance in the translation tests and the performance in the memory test (for interpreting) and interview, which are the most reliable predictors if an applicant will do well on the course. We continue to expect all applicants to pass these tests before we make an offer.

Therefore, please rest assured that the temporary measures are neither unfair, nor do they equate to a lowering of standards. They are merely a response to ensuring that promising applicants are not hindered in successfully securing a place through no fault of their own.
